Burglars victimized the Port Orchard Eye Care Center on Sedgwick Road on April 13, breaking in the door and making off with cash, checks and other items.

According to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Department report, on the morning of the incident a Port Orchard resident noticed numerous discarded Port Orchard Eye Care Center checks and deposit slips at the end of her driveway.

When she telephoned the business, there was no answer, so she drove there and discovered the front door glass broken.

She then called the police.

Sheriff’s deputies determined the suspect had used a rock to break the door in order to gain access to the business.

An employee of the eye care center arrived to find deputies at the scene.

The employee advised investigators that $100 cash was missing from a cash drawer, as was a bank deposit bag containing checks for the business, $280 in cash and a deposit booklet.

The checks and deposit booklet were subsequently recovered, although the checks were heavily damaged from being left outside in the rain.

The bank bag and $380 in cash are still missing.

“They didn’t take any computers or glasses,” said the employee. “They just took the cash and bank bag, kept the cash and threw the checks on the ground. They didn’t touch anything else, so they must have been in here before and knew where we kept our money.”
