Arbogast running for district Senate seat

According to the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission, former South Kitsap Education Association president Judy Arbogast has filed as a candidate for the District 26 state Senate seat currently held by Republican Sen. Jan Angel, of Port Orchard.

Angel, a former District 26 state representative, won the seat in November over Democratic Sen. Nathan Schlicher, to fill the final year of Derek Kilmer’s term. Kilmer won the senate seat in 2010, then ran and won the sixth congressional seat in 2012.

Arbogast, a former teacher from Olalla, was the SKEA spokesperson last year when the union was considering whether to strike over class sizes in the South Kitsap School District. Arbogast was present when the union gave a no vote of confidence in the district’s financial director, Sandy Rotella.

The union voted not to strike days before the start of school in September.

Arbogast taught elementary school students, including special education, beginning in 1982 with SKSD.

There will be a primary election in August before the November general election.
