Speaking of dodging legal landmines, members of the South Kitsap School District Board are probably patting themselves on the back for their unanimous decision last week to revert back to calling the December holiday “Winter Break” rather than the less politically correct “Christmas Break.”

They shouldn’t.

Instead of taking a principled stand, the board members allowed themselves to be browbeaten by a handful of secular bullies, including one who resorted to the time-tested technique of threatening a lawsuit to get his way.

The only thing sadder than someone being offended by the idea that the most joyous season of the year has a religious component to it is their being able to force the rest of us to pretend it doesn’t, too.
