Monday’s bombings take me back to April 19, 1995, when the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City was bombed by Timothy McVeigh and his accomplices. That day, 169 lives were lost and more than 680 people were injured. A senseless act ruining hundreds of lives.

Now, the bombing near the finish line at the most famous race in the world.

In a matter of seconds, another senseless act claimed three lives, including an 8-year-old boy, and more than 180 people injured — 13 or more had limbs amputated from the attack.

Watching videos and looking at images from the bombing, my heart — like many others — goes out to the victims and their families of this horrific and senseless act. Their lives will never be the same — thanks to a decision to detonate bombs.

What possesses someone or a group to place two homemade bombs designed to kill people and destroy property? We may ever know.

One year ago, the Obama’s administration declared, “The war on terror is over.” Well apparently, it’s not — not in America or the world.

Not only, do we have to be aware of foreign terrorist groups, such as al-Qaeda, but we have our own “homegrown” terrorist groups, such as the Aryan Nations, Weather Underground and Earth Liberation Front.

As long as mankind survives, evil and terrorists is part of our world. Evil only exists as mankind exist. That’s something we must deal with as we journey through life. And the unexpected can happen.

Hopefully, federal agents find the person or persons responsible for Monday’s bombing.

Sitting in prison for life or quick death is too good for the responsible party. How about some “southern-style justice.” Drop ’em off in the middle of a Louisiana swamp and let the alligators and deadly snakes determine their fate. Let ‘em suffer the pain they caused others.

My late grandmother always said, “The world will only get worse, it will never get better.” Maybe she was right.
