Gift helps keep preschool alive
September 3, 2010 · 8:29 AM
The South Colby Cooperative Preschool would like to thank the Suquamish Tribe for its generous donation of $1,000.
The preschool has been preparing Port Orchard’s youngest students for more than 35 years, and I have had the honor of teaching here for the past 25.
Sadly, we are now fighting a financial battle to keep our school open.
We have been able to keep our spending within budget and our 2009-10 fundraising campaign was our most successful ever.
Unfortunately, it has not been enough.
Due to the current economic climate, our enrollment has been down for the past four years.
Our board of directors has been busy this summer striving to keep our school open.
Recruiting efforts have been in full swing as we try to find students to fill our classes. We are taking every measure we can to keep our school in operation.
The $1,000 donation from the Suquamish Tribe not only gives a boost to our financial woes, it has really boosted our spirits in immeasurable ways.
