Do all Port Orchard restaurants close at sundown?

Can’t a person eat out after 9 here?

We believe it is very important to support local businesses as much as possible. We often wait to buy something until we can find it in Kitsap County — hopefully in Port Orchard.

So we were frustrated to discover that we couldn’t go out for a pizza anywhere in Port Orchard at 9 p.m. on a recent Saturday night.

I understand how it can be hard to operate a small business for extended hours each day when the owners may be the only employees.

However, it seems to me that if businesses in this town are ever going to build a sustained customer base to support their business over the long run, they would do well to try to attract families and teens to their locations and away from the fast food places.

Teens who can’t even go to a movie then out for a pizza — and as we did — end up at fast food estabishments, which means our money goes mostly out of the area and not to the owners.
Profits don’t stay in town and that doesn’t help local businesses.

Ever try to go out for coffee after 9 p.m. on any night of the week? Your choices are Family Pancake House or Shari’s.

They’re not bad choices, but taking up a table for just coffee doesn’t endear you to the wait staff.

I’m hoping that in the future Port Orchard can become a place to eat out in the evening and a place where my family can support local businesses.
