Vote ‘no’ to change city’s government

October 20, 2013 · Updated 11:42 AM

The city will leave too much decision making to the new city manager who is not directy accountable to the public.

The citizens can vote out of office a mayor who does not perform. Without an elected executive, the community lacks political leadership. In a mayor, the citizens have a person to blame for leadership errors. With a city manager form of city government, the manager blames the council and the council blames the manager for errors.

Simply stated, the council-mayor form of government gives to much power to one person — the city manager. A professional manager chosen from outside the city will not know our community and is too far removed from the voters. City managers cost too much, local people will handle the job for less cost.

The city manager will leave the city when offered a higher salary and greater responsibility in another city. Why vote to change a form of goverment that has worked for Port Orchard for decades?

Please vote “no” to change Port Orchard’s government.
