Car show is a huge success

July 25, 2014 · 9:16 AM

The Port Orchard Eagle’s fourth annual Car Show and Shine on July 12 was a huge success. Despite the boiling hot temperatures and several distractions such as the Chris-Craft boats in Port Orchard and a beer fest in Bremerton, nearly 100 proud car owners displayed their “babies” and hundreds of folks stopped by to take a closer look.

Car show visitors not only looked at the cool cars but also visited with friends and neighbors, enjoyed a fantastic lunch prepared and served by Aerie and Auxiliary members, assisted by South Kitsap Helpline board members and tried to cool off with soft drinks, beer and ice cream.

The community networking, laughter and relaxed atmosphere are the highlight of our car show. This alone makes our efforts worthwhile.

The Eagles slogan of “People Helping People” goes way beyond their national charities including but not limited to: heart, cancer, abused children, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s. The Port Orchard Eagles support the idea that charity begins at home. Thus, all proceeds from the car show go to South Kitsap Helpline Food Bank.

Each year we sell raffle tickets and conduct a live auction to raise money. This year more than 75 local merchants donated prizes (see our thank you ad in the July 11 Port Orchard Independent). We encourage our members and guests to support the businesses who donate to us, and we thank them again for their help. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
