Letters to the Editor

Library system also wasting money with special elections

Thank you, Ayvon Card, for your Aug. 27 letter (“They’re still wasting money”) making people aware of the fact that certain branches of government (in this case the South Kitsap School District) continue to waste our tax dollars.

Ayvon stated in her letter, “The South Kitsap School District refuses to put its levies on the primary or general election ballot in the fall.”

Likewise, the Kitsap Regional Library has employed the same tactic.

In May, the library system ran a special levy that cost the taxpayers $248,879.57. The Kitsap County Auditor’s Office told me that if KRL had run the levy during the general election in the fall, it would have cost less than $30,000.

I’m getting sick of these special levies. It’s time to vote no on special levies.

Tell your elected officials to stop wasting tax dollars.

Please call or write your school district and the Kitsap Regional Library. Tell them to stop running special levies that waste our money.
