Sports briefs: Wolves place fourth at Auburn Invitational

• South Kitsap’s wrestling team finished fourth in an eight-team bracket at Saturday’s Auburn Invitational.

Cody Rose (145 pounds), Eddie Meisner (220) and Damien Medeiros (285) each won their weight class, while Bryce Broome (160) and Sam Skinner (152) were second. Jake Villars (185) and Brenden Hartshorn (138) finished third, while Matt Haberlach (132) and Michael Beard (182) were fouth.

The Wolves next compete Saturday at the 31st annual Olympic Duals at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. The 16-team field includes defending state champion Union from Vancouver. Wrestling begins at 9:15 a.m.

• Senior guard Jackie Steiger scored 15 points, but it was not enough as South Kitsap’s girls basketball team lost 54-53 in nonleague play Friday against Yelm.

The Wolves (1-1) played a nonleague game Wednesday at Lincoln before beginning Class 4A Narrows League play tonight at Olympia.
