Late-inning rally knocks SKS into losers bracket

The Gig Harbor American 9- to 10-year-old Little League all-stars rallied from a 5-1 deficit to upend the South Kitsap Southern all-stars Sunday night and move into the District 2 title game in action at Art Mikelsen Field in Port Orchard.
The SK Southern team looked to be cruising to Tuesdays championship contest as they held a 5-1 lead entering the fifth inning, but GH rallied to cut the lead to one and had a man in scoring position when SKS turned a nifty double play to escape the inning with the lead.
But GH pushed two more runs across the plate in the top of the sixth to go ahead and SK ended the game with the tying run on second.
This was the first loss for SK Southern in the double-elimination tournament.
The team played Gig Harbor National late Monday night with the winner advancing to Tuesdays title game, where it will need to beat GHA twice to claim the district title.
SK Southern reached Sundays winners-bracket game by pounding North Kitsap American 11-3 on Friday afternoon.
Caulin Bakalarski went the distance for Southern, striking out seven to get the win. Zachary Ringer was 3-4 with a RBI while Tanner Paulson also had three hits.
Tiler Moore collected two hits in that game for Southern.
The South Kitsap Western team saw its season end with a pair of losses over the weekend.
GH American knocked Western into the losers bracket with a 7-3 win Friday night while GH National ended its season with an 11-10 win Saturday.
SK Eastern still alive in major tournament: The South Kitsap Eastern all-stars played late Monday night as they try to climb their way to the title game in major league baseball being play at Virgil Stacy Memorial Field in Olalla.
SKE faced Bainbridge National with the winner advancing to meet Bainbridge American Tuesday night.
The winner of that match would then have to beat the Eastern/Southern Jefferson team twice to claim the District 2 title.
SK Western makes title game in junior baseball: The South Kitsap Western all-stars moved into the title game of the District 2 junior tournament last weekend but saw their season end with a 14-0 loss to the Eastern/Southern Jefferson squad.
SKE/S tops SKW in senior tourney: A split squad of all-stars from the South Kitsap Eastern and Southern leagues began the District 2 senior tournament with a 10-0 win of the South Kitsap Western all-stars Saturday in Gig Harbor. SKW dropped into the losers bracket and played Key Peninsula Sunday while SKE/S faced a split team made up of all-stars from Eastern and Southern Jefferson and Port Townsend with the winner advancing to the title game.
