"The South Kitsap High School volleyball team opened the season with a 15-5, 15-3, 15-10 win against Olympic at home Wednesday. The Wolves out-killed the Trojans 23-7 in a sloppy match.SK senior Katie Ralph led with eight kills and 5-foot-4-inch senior Olivia Bui added seven kills and three blocks. The match was never in doubt as SK rolled to a 13-0 lead in the first game. Thanks to SK errors, Olympic cut the lead to 13-5 but a pair of aces from sophomore Starla Lockhart ended the game.SK rolled to easy win in game two.The Wolves led 11-3 in the third game before SK errors allowed Olympic to score seven unanswered points and pull within one point at 11-10.SK, however, kept its focus and scored the next four points to win the game and match. While the veterans showed their importance on the team, the varsity newcomers showed the team has potential to succeed but needs time to gel.The team is starting to come together but the chemistry is not there yet, Bui said. This is the best we've played by far (compared to practices) but we were doing stupid small errors like not moving our feet and not getting down low enough to get the ball.Bui said she was concerned after she learned of the transfer of setters Erin and Stephanie Olsen. But she is now quick to point out the new setters, a pair of sophomores, are picking up where they left off.Now we have a left handed setter (Lockhart) that's amazing and we have Chelsea (Hoffman) who's amazing. They're both very talented.Though Ralph is playing in the middle, sophomore Lea Juntila showed her value in the middle against Olympic with five blocks.Ralph said she may be able to move back to outside hitter--her natural position. The biggest question entering the season is who would emerge as the outside hitters.Though Bui lacks the typical size of an outside hitter, she attributes her leaping ability to her summer conditioning on the basketball court. My goal was to get higher this summer and I did, she said. I out-rebounded everybody.SK's next match is at home against Bainbridge Island Wednesday at approximately 5:30 p.m. "
