SK wrestlers win Lake Washington tourney

The South Kitsap High School wrestling team entered the Lake Washington Invitational last weekend with the intention of gaining mat experience.

But the Wolves ended up accomplishing more than practice as they ran away with the tournament title with 218.5 points. Oak Harbor was second with 176 points.

Individual champions included senior Evan Winslow (160 pounds) and sophomore Jon Potts (215 pounds).

SK runner-ups included Tommy Bayne (140), Jacob Kathan (145), and Devon Spencer (189).

Dustin Johnson (125), Kyle Caldon (152), and Dean Hoskins (171) earned third-place finishes.

Micah Kipperberg (112) and Brendon Little (135) each placed fourth.

The South Kitsap Wolves, an AAU eighth grade boys basketball team, lost to the Tacoma Spurs 67-63 in overtime Saturday at Mount Tahoma High School.

SK’s Ryan Cosgrove hit a clutch last-minute three pointer to send the game into overtime. Cosgrove grabbed a team-high 18 rebounds and scored 12 points for SK. Tysaiah Curry scored 13 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for SK. Stephen Daniels added 10 points and Kyle Pease 8 points.

The local junior high boys basketball teams suffered some heartbreaking losses to start the season two weeks ago.

Marcus Whitman recorded losses to Bremerton (63-60) and Poulsbo (63-50).

John Sedgwick lost to Central Kitsap (57-33) and Bremerton in overtime (49-47).

Cedar Heights was blown out by Fairview (97-47) and Central Kitsap (71-50).
