Wolves set to host Invite
June 12, 2008 · Updated 2:49 PM
Hoping to build on Wednesdays dominating performance, the South Kitsap cross-country teams will take on most of Western Washington Saturday, playing host to the South Kitsap Invitational at Cedar Heights Junior High School.
The meet begins at 9:30 a.m. with a junior high race and concludes with varsity girls running at 11:15 a.m. with the boys following at 11:45 a.m.
Teams scheduled to compete include North and Central Kitsap, Olympic, Bremerton, Wilson, Stadium, Curtis, Centralia, Bothell, Capital and Gig Harbor.
We have a good level of competition (for the meet), SK coach Ed Santos said. Weve got a good track laid out. We didnt want it too flat or too hilly. We have a moderate to hilly, tough course.
The course, at 3.1 miles long, will begin at the junior high track and then wind its way in the wooded area beside the school. The finishing stretch flattens out as racers emerge from the woods, providing the setting for exciting finishes.
Santos said both boys and girls teams from Capital and the girls team from Gig Harbor will provide his own teams with tough competition.
The Wolves are coming off wins at Wednesdays meet with Central Kitsap and Shelton. The girls had 13 runners finish in the top 16, led by Eileen Morley and Samantha Godfrey who finished 1-2 with identical times of 20 minutes, 28 seconds, to record a 19-42 win over CK and beat Shelton,19-38.
Top five runners of each school are counted toward team scores.
It was a good meet for us, Santos said. Getting 13 in the top 16, Im really pleased with that. They did a great job.
The SK boys scored wins of 23-28 over Shelton and 15-48 over CK. C.J. Godfrey led the way, placing first with a time of 17:09.45 while Justin Culver and Drew Pooley placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
I was real pleased with what we did, Santos said. We ran really well. We ran smart races. They did the things theyre supposed to do.
