SK's Davison, Duran and Hultz get national, regional rankings
South Kitsap High School tennis standouts Stephanie Davison, Charlotte Duran, and Andy Hultz finished the 2004 United States Tennis Association tournament season ranked regionally and nationally.
Stephanie Davison, a junior at SK and the reigning Class 4A state champion, ended the 2004 season ranked No. 9 nationally in girls 16-U singles and No. 1 for the Pacific Northwest in girls 18-U singles.
Duran, also a junior at South, was ranked 34th in girls 16-U singles in the Pacific Northwest.
Hultz, a senior at South, was ranked 40th in boys 18-U singles in the final 2004 Pacific Northwest standings despite playing baseball during much of the tournament season. Hultz qualified for the high school district tennis tourney this May by losing in the semi-finals of the Narrows league championships last fall.
Former South Kitsap wrestler Derek Kipperberg won the 149-pound title last weekend at the Junior College Western Regional Tournament.
Kipperberg, who won a state title in 2002 at South, won his title while wrestling for North Idaho College Saturday just an hour after his younger brother Josiah took the Region III High School Tournament crown in Tacoma.
Derek will wrestle in the Junior College National Championships in next weekend in Minnesota. He earned All-American honors last year with a third place finish.
Josiah goes after the Class 4A state crown today at 103 pounds at the Mat Classic in Tacoma.
