Miller's dominance keeps Wolves unbeaten
June 12, 2008 · Updated 3:24 PM
A quick glance at Brittany Millers pitching line from last week should put a scare into anyone.
In two games, the South Kitsap senior pitched 14 innings, allowed five hits, walked one, gave up just one earned run, struck out 26 and won twice.
But has she ever pitched better than this in her life?
I think, yeah, Miller said after Fridays 10-0 win over Gig Harbor. All my pitches are really starting to come together and work and Im not sure if thats just the comfort level of my team and my catcher.
Whatever it is, it cant get much better than the last week when Miller and the Wolves, now 16-0 overall and 12-0 in Narrows League Bridge Division play, wrapped up the league title with wins over North Kitsap and Gig Harbor. South closed out its regular season Monday at Central Kitsap and Tuesday at Bremerton with nothing more than a perfect season on the line.
South will face the Bays top seed, currently Wilson, May 19 at Pendergrast Park in Bremerton in the Narrows League tournament. The winner of that game will enter the May 27-28 West-Central District as a No. 1 seed.
Were peaking at the right time but shes had that in her, South coach Kathy Ballew said. Shes getting stronger and stronger. Shes got to be feeling great it givers her more confidence and it gives the team confidence.
Miller, who visited a massage therapist over the weekend to work out a huge knot in her pitching shoulder, got a few pitching tips from her select team coach on her release point one certain pitches.
It worked wonders.
It really seems to be coming together really well, Miller said. I have a lot more movement in my shoulder which helps get my speed up.
While Miller was mowing down the Tides, she got plenty of run support. Both Amanda Galla and Jievielyn Howard hit triple and later scored to give Miller a 2-0 lead through four innings. The Wolves put the game out of reach in the fifth, getting four hits, including RBI singles by Miller and Chantal Boddie.
