SKELL All-Stars win District Two tourney

The South Kitsap Eastern Little Leagues 11- to 12-year-old all-star team won the Washington State District 2 Major League Tournament Wednesday night, defeating Gig Harbor National 6-2 to claim the title.
The SKELL team did not lose a game in the tournament, finishing with a 5-0 record. The team started off play with an 18-0 win over West Central, beat Bainbridge Island American 6-5, topped Gig Harbor American 5-2 and beat Gig Harbor National 3-2 to get to the championship game.
In the title game, SKELL pitcher Kasey Bielec went the distance, needing just 65 pitches to record five strike outs while walking none.
Bielec also collected a pair of singles at the plate, while Jay Santos went 3-for-3 and Zach Mendiola and Brennen Fernie each hit a double.
Austin Lowe had two hits for SKELL while Garrett Ashbaugh contributed a single.
Defensively, catcher David Cole and outfielder Austin Lowe turned in some spectacular plays.
The SKELL all-stars advance to next weeks Washington State Major League tournament, July 23-21 in Auburn. Their first game will be July 23 at 4 p.m. at Sunset Park in Auburn against a team out of the Tri-Cities District 12.
South Kitsap Wolfpack Invitational under way: The South Kitsap Wolfpack Invitational is under way with games at Cedar Heights Junior and South Kitsap High School this weekend.
The Wolfpack, a 14U select baseball team based in Port Orchard, began the tourney by playing the Narrows Yankees late Friday night at Cedar Hights. Today will see pool play between all six teams at both locations.
The Wolfpack will play its second game at SKHS, facing the North End Yankee Dawgs at 9 a.m.
Each team will play twice to set the seddings for Sundays play. The two teams that come out of Sundays round will face off in the title game at 6 p.m. at the South Kitsap High School field.

State softball tourney gets going today: The South Kitsap Western Little League is hosting the Washington State Little League Girls Major Softball Tournament for ages 11-12 today through July 23 at Art Mikelson Field in Port Orchard.
The 10-team tournament gets under way today at noon with all games being played at Mikelson Field. The District 2 representative is Bainbridge Island and their first game is at 6 p.m. Sunday against District 5.
