SKELL 11-12 year-olds bounced from state tourney

The South Kitsap Eastern Little League was two and done at this weeks 11-12 year-old Washington Little League State Tournament.
SKELL, which had won the District 2 title two weeks ago, lost Saturdays opening round game against Richland 3-1 and exited the tournament after a 13-3 loss to the Cascade out of Vancouver, which also ended their season.
In the 3-1 loss to Richland, Brennen Fernie pitched five strong innings, striking out three but mental mistakes in the field and quite bats doomed SKELL.
Zach Mendiola and Collier Mayo both had singles while Brennen Fernie walked twice and scored the lone run. Garrett Ashbaugh, Mendiola and David
Hunnicutt made some big defensive plays and David Cole tagged a runner
out at the plate on a great throw from Kasey Bielec.
But the team could not rebound and lost big to Cascade 13-3. All three runs came on solo home runs by Mendiola, Fernie and Ashbaugh.
All in all, our experience at state was very disappointing, coach Ralph Riddle said. I think the air came out of our balloon with our tough loss on Saturday.
