SK preps 12-10
Ryan Sweet scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while fellow senior Josh Monagle added 12 points and seven boards to lead the South Kitsap boys basketball team to a 77-40 season-opening win over Lincoln High Wednesday night.
The Wolves, ranked fourth in the state by both Washingtonpreps.com and the Seattle Times, broke open a close first half with a 23-3 run and coasted to the easy win.
Junior guard L.P. Neloms added 14 points for South.
The Wolves play Kennedy on Saturday in the Les Schwab Hoop Challenge at Bellevue Community College.
South opens Narrows League Bridge Division play Dec. 14 at Shelton with the home opener Dec. 16 against Port Angeles.

Swimmers get plenty of district times in first two meets: The South Kitsap boys swim team lost its opening meet of the year on Tuesday but saw 10 individuals post times good enough to qualify for the district meet in February.
The Wolves dropped a close meet to Lindbergh, 101-85, at the SK pool to start the season. The Dec. 3 meet against Central Kitsap was postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
Those who qualified for districts included Danny DeRego, Tom Gregory and Kyle Hawkins in the 200-yard individual medley; Kris Bonar and Bryant Bartlett in the 500 freestyle; Bartlett, A.J. Melcher and Jared Rank in the 100 butterfly; Mike West in the 100 backstroke; and, DeRego in the 500 free.
It was a pretty good first meet of the season, coach Leah Gilland said. (There were) a few mistakes that may have cost us a win. I'm pleased with our boys swims and dives.
South topped Bremerton 100-83 late Thursday night behind a 1-2-3 finish by Justin Forshaw, Mike Haire and Chris Hoffman in diving. District qualifying times were turned in by DeRego in the 200 free and 100 fly, Bartlett in the 100 breaststroke and 100 free and Bonar in the 100 and 50 frees.
The Wolves will play host to Bainbridge Tuesday.

South bowlers pick up another win: Dana Stuefloten had high game while Jackie Murray rolled high series to lead the South Kitsap girls bowling team to a two-game sweep of Klahowya Tuesday night.
Stuefloten rolled a game of 197 while Murray had a series of 318 to lead the Wolves to an 696-576 and 839-573 win.
South faced Bremerton late Thursday and will play host to Central Kitsap Tuesday.
