Wolves swim season comes to disappointing end

The South Kitsap boy’s swim team season came to an end Saturday as none of the Wolves’ participants recorded a state qualify swim at the West Central District meet Saturday at Foss in Tacoma.

South finished 13th as a team, scoring 37 points. Wilson High won the meet with a total of 261 while Gig Harbor was second at 238.

South took 14 total swimmers to the meet in hopes of recording one or two times fast enough to gain entry to the state meet but failed to do so.

South’s Kris Bonar was the only individual to advance to a finals race, that coming in the 100-yard backstroke where he swam a 58.73 in the preliminaries. Bonar did not place in the top four in the finals.

South had a couple of its relay teams qualify for the consolation finals but no results from those races were immediately available.

South may still have a chance to allocate one or two of its team members into the state meet but the chances of that are not good.

The Class 4A state swimming and dive meet will be held Feb. 17-18 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
