SK preps 5-3

Joel Schenfeld and Jonathan Murphy fired rounds of 78 to help lead the South Kitsap boys golf team to a fourth place finish at last week’s Tim Higgins Memorial Golf Tournament held at Kitsap Golf & Country Club in Bremerton.

Bainbridge won the team title with a final score of 305 while Port Townsend was second at 308. North Kitsap slipped into third place at 320 followed by the Wolves at 323.

Both Schenfeld and Murphy finished 10 strokes behind eventual winner Austin Hurt of Bainbridge, who blistered the Kitsap course with a round of 68.

South rounded out its scores with an 80 from Kenneth Eisenhut and an 87 by Marcus Lacey.

The Wolves were home late Tuesday against Port Angeles and face Gig Harbor Thursday at McCormick Woods.

The first round of the Narrows League Tournament is set for May 10 at Lake Spanaway Golf Course.

•Â SK fastpitch team in danger of missing playoffs: Central Kitsap’s Erika Quint tossed a one-hitter Friday to lead the Cougars to a 6-0 win over South Kitsap in Narrows League Bridge Division action.

The loss leaves the Wolves at 6-7 overall and 6-5 in division play and just in front of Olympic for the fourth and final playoff spot.

South closes out the regular season with three games this week, at Gig Harbor late Monday, at home against Port Angeles Wednesday and at North Kitsap Friday.

Should South and Olympic tie for the final spot, a tie-breaker would be needed to figure out which team advances since the two schools split their regular season contests.
