SK Babe Ruth claims District 8 crown
The South Kitsap Babe Ruth All-Stars kept the Bainbridge All-Stars from knocking the ball around on Sunday, defeating them 16-4 and 13-5 to win the District 8 title at Battle Point Park.
Bainbridge defeated South Kitsap 17-7 in the opening round Friday night, then came back against Bremerton on Saturday with several runs in its last half of the inning to win 13-12 and make it to the championship game.
In the first game, South Kitsap took a 3-0 lead in the first, then scored three more in the second on three walks, an error and a sacrifice fly.
The Bainbridge defense kept the game from getting out of hand as the right fielder made two good throws to nail runners at home.
Bainbridge got two runs back when Evan Sanford scored on a wild pitch in the second while Nic Miller scored in the third on an error.
But South Kitsap sent 14 batters to the plate in the fourth inning to score 10 runs on five hits and effectively end the game.
In the championship game, South Kitsap got on the board first as the leadoff hitter walked and came around to score on an error.
Bainbridge tied the game in its half of the frame as Miller hit a bloop double, then scored on a passed ball.
South Kitsap retook the lead in the second as it scored two runs on a passed ball and a bases loaded walk. Bainbridge cut the lead down when Touchette was hit by a pitch and eventually came around to score on a base hit by Miller.
South retook the lead in the fifth when Zach Hoffman tripled, then scored on an error.
Jeff Renner came around to score on a base hit.
South then put five on the board in the sixth, highlighted by a three-run home run to left field by Garrett Ashbaugh.
