keeps season
going with win
South Kitsap’s rebounded from a loss against Rogers to beat Stadium and remain in the West Central District 3 volleyball tournament in the Kitsap Pavilion at the Fairgrounds.
The Wolves advance to play a loser-out match at noon Saturday against Bellarmine Prep at the Pavilion.
South (9-10), which entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed, accomplished that with a win against No. 4 Stadium, 25-16, 25-22, 18-25, 25-23.
The Wolves lost their opener against No. 2 Rogers, 25-23, 25-16, 25-16.
Mallory Horch had a combined 16 kills for the Wolves, while teammate Angel Sheldon had 15 and Stephanie Osterdahl added 14. Cortney Echternach also had 44 assists, while Sarah Voigt added 21 digs for the Wolves.
Phillips finishes in 121st place at state
South Kitsap senior Jon Phillips finished in 121st place in 17 minutes, 33 seconds in the Class 4A cross-country championships.
Redmond junior Mack Young won the event in 15:18, followed by Central Kitsap junior Shane Moskowitz (15:21).
There were 142 competitors in the boys event.
Gig Harbor senior Alyssa Andrews won the girls event in 18:00. Central’s Shannon Moskowitz finished fourth in 18:38. She was the top local finisher.
There were 148 competitors in the girls meet.
