Last week: Shelton lost 21-0 at Foss.

Overview: Second-year offensive coordinator Cary Nagel, a 1999 Shelton graduate, brought the spread offense he learned as an offensive lineman at Alabama State to his alma mater last year. But the results were disastrous as the Highclimbers averaged a league-low 8.6 points per game in their return to the Narrows League. The defense wasn’t any better as it allowed a league-worst 45.9 points per game during Shelton’s winless season. The Highclimbers returned to a more balanced offensive approach and expect to improve with 10 returning starters, including quarterback C.D. Hinkle, on offense and nine on the defensive side. Shelton won its first Narrows League game since returning from the Class 3A Western Cascade Conference with a 40-16 victory in their opener Sept. 4 against Mount Tahoma. The Highclimbers were competitive during their previous stint in the Narrows League. They won the Bridge Division in 2004 and finished with a 9-1 record.
