South Kitsap girls basketball remains perfect | Sports briefs

Girls Basketball: Two more wins means South Kitsap will head into the holiday break with a perfect record.

Junior Dana Goularte scored 14 points to lead the Wolves to a 44-37 nonleague victory Saturday against Lakeside.

South (7-0 overall, 5-0 league) also earned a 65-51 win Friday against Lincoln in Narrows League play. Senior Molly Werder had a team-best 14 points in that game, while Goularte (13) and classmate Angela Romonsky (12) both scored in double figures.

The Wolves, who play Wednesday against Roosevelt, are off to their best start in more than a decade. Their last two state-playoff teams — 2000 and 2009 — were 5-2 and 6-1 at this point, respectively.

Boys Basketball: South Kitsap lost its fourth consecutive game Friday, 65-48, at Lincoln.

Junior Kerry Burden paced the Wolves (3-4 overall, 1-4 league) with 11 points, while teammates Leon La Deaux and Greg Pickard each added 10.

South plays again Monday against Inglemoor in the Les Schwab Christmas Classic at Bellevue Community College.

Anthony Thomas scored a game-high 23 points and added six rebounds and four steals to lead West Bay Auto Parts to a 47-31 win Dec. 12 against Show Time. Keithan Dennis also had seven steals for West Bay.
